Metropolis Coming to Blu-ray in 2009

Kino International has revealed that they are bringing the 1927 Fritz Lang silent film ‘Metropolis’ to Blu-ray sometime in 2009. The film, which was painstakingly restored by Kino in 2001, is often credited with starting the Sci-Fi genre. At this point in planning, it is too early to speculate about technical specs, but special features should be similar to the DVD release….

NEC Plans for 8X Blu-ray Recording

NEC has announced that they have begun shipping samples of their latest SoC (System on a Chip) for use in Blu-ray Disc applications. The chip, which has been named SCOMBO/UM2A, will support 8X reading and writing of Blu-ray disc media. Other improvements on the chip include a reduction in size of 20% and 33% less power consumption than the previous model….
